It started with a simple question

For years, friends and family would ask me before buying a used car:

“Can you take a look at this first?”

They knew I would do the homework — research the vehicle, review its history, compare prices, look for potential problems, and give them an honest opinion about whether it was worth buying.

Cars have always fascinated me, and solving problems is what I spent my career doing as an engineer in the semiconductor industry. After retiring, I decided to combine the two and turn something I had been doing informally for years into ExactQuest.

Why ExactQuest exists

Buying a used car involves a lot of uncertainty. You may be wondering whether you’re paying too much, overlooking a mechanical risk, choosing the right vehicle, or about to inherit someone else’s expensive problem.

ExactQuest exists to help reduce that uncertainty.

Whether you’ve already found a car or you’re still deciding what to buy, my role is to research the information that matters, identify the risks, and help you make an informed decision.

An engineering approach to car buying

Engineering taught me that good decisions start with good information.

I approach every vehicle systematically: its history, market value, reliability, likely mechanical risks, ownership costs, and the questions that should be answered before you buy. The goal isn’t to find reasons to buy a car. It’s to determine whether the evidence supports buying it.

Every assessment is documented in a written ExactQuest Assessment Report explaining what I found, why it matters, and my recommendation.

The only person I work for is you

I have never worked for a dealership. ExactQuest has no dealer affiliations, accepts no seller referral fees, and earns no commissions based on what vehicle you buy.

Sometimes my recommendation is to proceed. Sometimes it’s to negotiate or walk away. And sometimes it’s to consider a different vehicle altogether.

Whatever the answer, my responsibility is the same: help you make the best used car decision with your money.
